(MYSTIC) - Rob Simmons, candidate for U.S. Senate, made the following statement today reacting to Republican victories in Connecticut, New Jersey and Virginia in yesterday's election:

"Last night's Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia and in key races across Connecticut show that the GOP is alive and well, including in the Northeast where reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.

"Having gotten a taste of the big government excesses of Democrats in Washington, voters everywhere are revolting at the ballot box and sounding the alarm for fiscal sanity. No one should fear these results more than Senator Dodd who was at the epicenter of the economic meltdown and its myriad of failed responses, and who continues to push for any array of costly and economically destructive proposals, including government health care.

"I am especially pleased by Republican victories across Connecticut where voters turned to our Party for leadership in town after town. I congratulate all of our municipal candidates and Republican Town Committees for an outstanding effort. The strength of our Party is at the grassroots, and local victories this year build the foundation for victory in 2010."
